The day began,without much fuss...
The day began,without much fuss,
the kids to school, upon the bus.
I'd planned the library, then the mall,
to visit friends, and, all in all
the day would pass like all the rest
My life I felt it had been blessed
Or so I thought
I remember like it was just today,
the dishes in the sink they lay.
Nothing special, nothing new,
repetition can be cosy too.
Life was good, life secure
We were happy, that's for sure
Or so I thought
It was just by chance, I glanced across
and noticed, though not a lot,
you weren't so steady on your feet,
something was different, incomplete.
You still looked well, sure you'd be fine,
It could wait, 'till another time
Or so I thought
But then the phone rang, and so I went
and answered it. If I had spent
just minutes more, I would have seen
your sparkling eyes, that usually gleam
were duller now. You'd be fine. No need to care,
I knew that you'd be always there
Or so I thought
But no,I'd filled my life with things
that took my attention, most trifling .
Through sad eyes you watched and saw
as I went out and closed the door.
You would be there when I returned
and so I need not be concerned
Or so I thought
And so it was at half past three
I arrived home and put the key
into the lock. I waited, but now could see,
no familiar face had greeted me.
He hasn't heard, well no big deal,
he's still asleep after his meal
Or so I thought
Well, now things are different, things have changed.
My days from henceforth filled with pain.
My faith in God was shaken, true
How could he do this thing to you.
You were my hero, a real Godsend,
You were my everlasting friend.
